Interview skills are key to securing employment. Employment specialists prepare participants for this experience through soft skills training in appropriate dress, appropriate conduct, utilization of their resume as a reference tool, professional communication, and personal confidence. Program participants are coached using role play scenario and mock interviews with Human Resource staff members. Skill practice includes preparing for the interview, guidelines and tips for effective interview conversations, question to expect and appropriate answers, and tips for disclosure of disability.
Through a formative assessment model, each experience is evaluated by the employment specialist working with the individual to identify interviewing strengths and weaknesses. This information guides the employment specialist in the provision of support to assist each participant in learning the interviewing process and gaining independence in the skill areas needed to succeed. Interview coaching is provided both as part of our vocational program and as our participants actively transition to job placement services.
